GOLF

Whistler Golf Club
Pro Shop: 932-3280 Tee Times: 932-4544

Designed by Arnold Palmer, this is Whistler's original golf club. The course is a typical Palmer creation: 6,400 yards from the championship tees, par 71. This picturesque layout appeals to all levels of golfers. Although not a particularly long course, the southerly afternoon winds make it play much longer. There is lots of water, with nine ponds and Crabapple Creek winding its way through the course. The signature hole is the dogleg-left 13th, which requires a good drive and a difficult second shot toward an undulating green.

Chateau Whistler Golf Club
Pro Shop, Tee Times: 938-2092

Carved out of the mountain slopes at the base of Blackcomb, the Chateau Whistler Golf Club has more than 400 feet of elevation change. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course traverses rushing mountain streams and provides spectacular views of the Whistler Valley. Golf Digest Magazine called it "Canada's best new course for 1993." Golfers now enjoy the Satellite Yardage System, a computer aided "satellite caddie" on board every cart. Motorized carts are mandatory. Close to the beer and wine store

Nicklaus North Golf Course
Tee Times: 938-9898

Only the second golf course in the world to carry the Golden Bear's surname, Nicklaus North lives up to its designer's reputation. Last summer Fred Couples and Ernie Els played a round of Shell's Wonderful World of Golf at Nicklaus North. The previous summer Nicklaus North hosted the Skins Game, which featured Couples, Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Nick Faldo. With five sets of tees, Nicklaus North offers a test of skill for every caliber of golfer.

Big Sky Golf and Country Clug
Tee Times: 1-800-668-7900

Twenty-five minutes north of Whistler, in the Pemberton Valley, this Robert Cupp creation sits in the shadow of spectacular Mount Currie. With one of the best teaching facilities in the province, Big Sky attracts serious golfers who want to learn more about the game. The signature hole is the 605-yard, par 5 fourth.

Pemberton Valley Golf and Country Club
Tee Times: 1-800-390-4653

Next door to Big Sky, the setting for the Pemberton Valley course is as spectacular as any in the corridor, but the green fees are the most affordable. Through the efforts and commitment of the local community, Pemberton Valley was redesigned and reopened in 1992 boasting excellent bent grass greens and the only island green in the corridor.
